Applicants for a CACSD Research Grant should submit a current curriculum vitae, a proposal outline (1000 word maximum) addressing the following issues, and two reference letters in support of the application.

  1. Quality of proposal: Does the research project have clearly defined problems and goals? Does it have an appropriate methodology and a realistic budget? What type of research is it?
  2. Promise of Applicant: Does the applicant have the necessary background and skills for the project?
  3. Potential Contribution: Will the research project address questions or issues of benefit to CACSD or to Christians in student services in post-secondary institutions at large? Will it assist the movement in professional development or institutional benefit?
  4. Potential for Completion: Does the project have a clear time schedule and targets for completion? Will this project be completed within two years? Does the researcher/writer have access to the necessary resources to complete the project?

The following principles will influence the review of proposals:

  1. CACSD Research Grant applicants/recipients/schools must be members of the CACSD for at least one year.
  2. In awarding funds, preference will be given to:
    • Those who have personally participated in the CACSD
    • Those who have not received funding for research from the CACSD in the previous three years.
    • Research for publication.
  3. Funding will be used to defray expenses related to the research or writing project.
  4. Funding will be for an amount between $500 and $1,000 depending on the type of project and its value to the broader community.
  5. Awardees will sign an agreement to handle the funds with accountability and will present either a workshop at an CACSD conference and/or a written summary of the research project and its results (25 to 40 pages) by a mutually accepted deadline.

Research Proposals should be sent to the CACSD for consideration for funding. Funding is on the basis of approval and priorities established by the Association. Funding will be granted only when the CACSD has sufficient funds for such a project.

The Executive reserves the right to promote research projects that are of value to the entire membership and to obtain the services of qualified people to complete the project. This could also include taskforces, focus groups, etc. that would produce reports and material for the association.

Research Grant

up to $500.00

Retreat Bursary

$50.00 each, on approval of the Executive, as funds are available.
Purpose: To encourage reflection and renewal amongst its members. Since CACSD members come from a variety of educational institutions and not all members have access to sufficient funds for reflective retreat, and with the demanding and people-centred nature of our profession, it is crucial that those working in student life have opportunities to reflect.
